Vladimir Vladimirovich Putin, born on October 7, 1952, is the current President of the Russian Federation. He has held this position since 2012, after serving two consecutive terms from 2000 to 2008. Before his tenure as the President, Putin also served as the Prime Minister of Russia from 1999 to 2000 and again from 2008 to 2012.
Putin is known for his authoritarian rule and is often criticized for suppressing political opposition and civil liberties. However, he has maintained his grip on power for over two decades and has been credited with restoring Russia’s global influence, particularly in the Middle East.
Putin grew up in Leningrad (now St. Petersburg) and graduated from Leningrad State University in 1975 with a law degree. He began his career in the KGB, the Soviet Union’s security agency, where he served until the fall of the Soviet Union in 1991. Afterward, he entered politics, serving as the mayor of St. Petersburg from 1991 to 1996.
As President of Russia, Putin has been involved in several major political events, including the annexation of Crimea in 2014 and the Russian military intervention in Syria in 2015. He has also been accused of meddling in foreign elections, including the 2016 US election.
Despite the controversies surrounding him, Putin has remained a popular figure in Russia, with approval ratings consistently above 80%.
Looking to the future, it remains to be seen how Putin will continue to shape Russian politics and the global landscape. Regardless of what the future holds, one thing is clear – Vladimir Putin has left an indelible mark on Russian history and politics.
