Triumph (TWN) is a German motorcycle manufacturer that was formed as a result of a merger between Triumph Cycle Company and the German company, Adler. The merger took place in 1929 and the company became known as Triumph-Adler AG. The company produced motorcycles under the name Triumph until 1957, when the rights to the brand were sold to BSA.
During its time as a motorcycle manufacturer, Triumph produced some of the most iconic motorcycles of all time, including the Bonneville, Thunderbird, and Tiger. Triumph also had a strong reputation for producing high-quality British sports motorcycles, which made it popular with riders all over the world.
One of the most famous motorcycles produced by Triumph was the Bonneville, which first appeared in 1959. The bike was named after the famous Bonneville Salt Flats in Utah, where many land speed records had been set. The Bonneville was a huge success and continued to be produced in various guises until 1983, when production of the bike ceased.
Triumph also had a strong racing heritage, with its bikes competing in various competitions around the world. Triumph bikes won many races, including the Isle of Man TT races and the Daytona 200. The company’s success in racing helped to bring its bikes to the attention of the wider public, and boosted sales of Triumph motorcycles around the world.
In the 1960s and 1970s, Triumph faced stiff competition from Japanese motorcycle manufacturers, who were producing cheaper, more reliable bikes. This put pressure on Triumph, and the company struggled financially. In 1983, the decision was made to stop production of Triumph motorcycles and the rights to the brand were sold to BSA.
In 1990, John Bloor, a British businessman, acquired the rights to the Triumph brand and set about reviving the company. Bloor invested heavily in the company, and in 1991 the first new Triumph motorcycle in over a decade was launched, the Trophy 1200. The company has continued to grow and expand, and today produces a range of modern motorcycles that blend the classic styling of its past with cutting-edge technology.
Triumph (TWN) is a company with a rich heritage and a strong reputation for producing high-quality motorcycles. With a renewed focus on innovation and technology, the company is set to continue producing world-class motorcycles for years to come.
