The movie begins with the birth of Simba, the son of Mufasa, the lion king, and his wife Sarabi. They reside in the Pride Lands, a vast savannah paradise where all animals live in harmony. Mufasa raises Simba to become the future king. However, Mufasa’s scheming brother, Scar, is jealous of Mufasa’s power and hatches a plan to take over and become king.
Simba falls into Scar’s trap which leads to Mufasa’s death. Scar manipulates Simba into believing that he was the reason for Mufasa’s death; thus, Simba flees from the Pride Lands into self-isolation. With no one to guide him, Simba encounters new friends, Pumbaa, and Timon, a meerkat and warthog respectively, who show him the carefree life of “Hakuna Matata.”
Meanwhile, Scar has turned the Pride Lands into a desolate wasteland, making the animals flee in search of food and water. Nala, Simba’s childhood best friend and eventual love interest, sets out to find help and comes across Simba in the jungle. She convinces Simba to return and take back his rightful place as king, and Simba reunites with his mother and prevails over Scar with the help of his friends.
