Also known as Dachshund, the Teckel is a breed of dog known for its small size yet big personality. They are beloved by many pet owners for their fun-loving, playful and affectionate nature. Often called “sausage dogs” due to their elongated bodies, they are incredibly unique in appearance and character.
Appearance
The Teckel comes in three different sizes: Standard, Miniature, and Kaninchen (also known as rabbit). Their coats can vary in length from short-haired to wire-haired and long-haired. Their elongated body, short legs, and muscular frame make them not only unique but also incredibly adorable. While they are often known for being brown or black, they can also be found in a variety of colors such as red, cream, and even dappled.
Temperament
Teckels are highly intelligent and quite stubborn. They have an independent nature, which makes training a bit challenging. However, they are also very loyal and affectionate. They want to be around their families and are happiest when sitting on someone’s lap or snuggled in with their loved ones. They are known to be good with children and make great family pets. They can also be quite vocal, letting their owners know if something is bothering them or if they are excited about something.
Exercise and Care
Teckels need exercise that is appropriate to their size. Daily walks are beneficial to their health and well-being as they can be prone to obesity if not exercised enough. Their coats also need regular grooming to ensure they don’t get matted, especially for those with long-haired coats. As with all breeds, they need to be trained and socialized at a young age to help them develop good manners and overcome any behavioral issues that may arise.
Teckels are a wonderful and unique breed known for their small size, big personalities, and adorable appearance. They make fantastic family pets and are perfect for those who want a loyal, friendly, and affectionate companion. While they may be stubborn and challenging to train at times, the love and affection they give in return makes them an incredibly rewarding pet to have.
