The Peoria Rivermen are a professional ice hockey team based in Peoria, Illinois. They compete in the Southern Professional Hockey League (SPHL) and play their home games at the Carver Arena located in the Peoria Civic Center. The team was originally founded in 1982 and has had rousing success over the years.

History

The Peoria Rivermen were initially members of the International Hockey League (IHL), where they played from 1984 to 1996, and won the Turner Cup IHL championship in 1991. They then joined the East Coast Hockey League (ECHL) from 1996 to 2005, where they won the ECHL championship in 2000.

In 2005, the Rivermen joined the American Hockey League (AHL) as the affiliate of the St. Louis Blues, where they played until 2013. In 2013, the Rivermen were sold to a group of local investors, and became members of the SPHL, where they’ve competed ever since.
