The New England Patriots, commonly referred to as the Patriots, are a professional American football team based in the Greater Boston area. The team was founded in 1959 as the Boston Patriots and played their home games at various stadiums around Boston before moving to their current home at Gillette Stadium in Foxborough, Massachusetts.

The Patriots are members of the East Division of the American Football Conference (AFC) in the National Football League (NFL). They have won the AFC East division title 21 times, the AFC championship 11 times, and the Super Bowl 6 times, tying them for the most Super Bowl wins with the Pittsburgh Steelers.
