Neil Armstrong was an American astronaut and the first person to ever step on the moon. Born in Wapakoneta, Ohio on August 5, 1930, Armstrong developed a passion for flying at a young age.

In 1949, he began studying aeronautical engineering at Purdue University on a U.S Navy scholarship. He then became a Naval aviator and served in the Korean War. Armstrong later became a test pilot and was chosen by NASA as one of the first astronauts for the Apollo space program.

On July 20, 1969, Armstrong stepped out of the lunar module, Eagle, and onto the moon’s surface, famously saying, “That’s one small step for man, one giant leap for mankind.” This historic achievement made him an international hero and a symbol of American pride.

After his historic mission, Armstrong held various positions at NASA and taught aerospace engineering at the University of Cincinnati. He later founded Armstrong Aerospace Medical Research Laboratory and co-authored a book about his famous mission, “First Man: The Life of Neil A. Armstrong.”

Armstrong passed away on August 25, 2012, at the age of 82. He will always be remembered as a pioneer and hero of space exploration who inspired generations of people around the world to dream big and work towards achieving their goals.

In honor of his legacy, NASA established the Neil Armstrong Flight Research Center, and many other awards and scholarships bear his name.
