Michael Joseph Jackson, popularly known as “the King of Pop,” was an American singer, songwriter, dancer, and actor. He was born on August 29, 1958, in Gary, Indiana and died on June 25, 2009, in Los Angeles, California. He was the eighth of ten children of the Jackson family. Jackson began his music career as a member of the Jackson 5, a group formed together with his siblings.
From the early 1980s, Jackson attained tremendous success with his solo career, releasing albums such as “Thriller,” “Bad,” and “Dangerous.” He held the record for the most Grammy Awards won by a male artist, having won 13 awards in total. Jackson’s style of dancing was also iconic and contributed to his success, notably his signature moonwalk dance move. His distinct voice, rock-solid rhythm, and his ability to blend various music genres like pop, rock, soul, and funk also set him apart from other musicians.
In addition to his music career, Jackson also made a name for himself in acting, appearing in films such as “The Wiz” and “Moonwalker.” He also had several humanitarian efforts, including donating millions of dollars to various charities such as the United Negro College Fund and the Red Cross.
Despite his success, Jackson had a tumultuous personal life, notably marked by his changing physical appearance, allegations of child sexual abuse, and legal troubles. In 2005, Jackson was acquitted of all charges in a highly publicized trial.
