Malcolm X was a prominent African American leader during the civil rights movement. He was born on May 19, 1925, in Omaha, Nebraska, and was named Malcolm Little. His father was a Baptist minister and a strong advocate for black nationalism, which heavily influenced Malcolm’s views and beliefs.

faced numerous challenges as a young man, including poverty, racism, and criminal activity. He ultimately ended up in prison, where he encountered the teachings of the Nation of Islam, a controversial religious movement that preached black separatism and self-sufficiency.

became a devoted follower of the Nation of Islam, and upon his release from prison in 1952, he took on the name to signify his rejection of the “slave name” given to his ancestors by white slave-owners. He quickly rose through the ranks of the organization and became a prominent spokesperson for black rights and empowerment, delivering passionate speeches that called for an end to racial discrimination and the establishment of a separate black nation in America.

Although was often criticized by mainstream civil rights activists for his more radical views and his support of violence as a means of self-defense, he was a powerful voice for a large portion of the black community. However, in 1964, had a falling out with the Nation of Islam and went on a pilgrimage to Mecca, where he had a profound spiritual awakening. This experience led him to renounce his previously separatist views and to embrace a more inclusive form of Islam that recognized the common humanity of all people.

Shortly after his return from Mecca, was assassinated while giving a speech in New York City. Despite his untimely death, his legacy lived on, and his powerful words and ideas continue to inspire generations of activists fighting for racial justice and equality.
