Kawhi Leonard is a professional basketball player who joined the Toronto Raptors in 2018. He was born on June 29, 1991, in Los Angeles, California and grew up in the area. Leonard attended San Diego State University, where he played college basketball for two years before declaring for the NBA draft.

Leonard was a first-round pick in the 2011 draft, selected 15th overall by the Indiana Pacers. However, he was immediately traded to the San Antonio Spurs on draft night.

Leonard spent his first seven seasons in the NBA with the Spurs, where he established himself as one of the best two-way players in the league. He won the NBA Defensive Player of the Year award twice (2015, 2016) and was named to the All-NBA First Team twice (2016, 2017).

In July 2018, the Spurs traded Leonard to the Raptors in exchange for DeMar DeRozan, Jakob Poeltl, and a protected 2019 first-round draft pick. Leonard quickly made his presence felt in Toronto, leading the team to its first NBA championship in his first season with the team.

Leonard was the Finals MVP for the second time in his career, averaging 28.5 points, 9.8 rebounds, and 4.2 assists in the NBA Finals against the Golden State Warriors.

Leonard’s arrival in Toronto marked a turning point for the franchise, as they had previously struggled to get past the LeBron James-led Cleveland Cavaliers in the Eastern Conference playoffs. With Leonard leading the way, the Raptors were able to break through and win the championship.
