John Tavares is a Canadian professional ice hockey player and the captain of the NHL’s Toronto Maple Leafs. He was born on September 20, 1990, in Mississauga, Ontario, Canada. Tavares is a center who is widely regarded as one of the best players in the NHL today.

Early Life and Career

Tavares began playing hockey at a young age and quickly established himself as a prodigious talent. He played for the Mississauga Senators of the GTHL and the Oakville Rangers of the OMHA before joining the Oshawa Generals of the OHL in 2005.

During his time with the Generals, Tavares set numerous records and established himself as one of the top prospects in the NHL. In 2009, he was drafted first overall by the New York Islanders in the NHL Entry Draft.
