Batista, whose real name is David Michael Bautista Jr., is a retired American professional wrestler, actor, and mixed martial artist. He was born on January 18, 1969, in Washington D.C., United States. Batista is best known for his time in World Wrestling Entertainment (WWE) where he won multiple championships.
Professional Wrestling Career
Batista made his wrestling debut in 1999 as Leviathan in Ohio Valley Wrestling (OVW), which was a developmental territory for WWE. In 2002, he made his main roster debut as Deacon Batista, a member of Reverend D-Von’s faction. However, it was in 2003, as part of the stable Evolution, that Batista became a prominent wrestler. He then won his first world championship in 2005, defeating Triple H at WrestleMania 21.
With multiple championships under his belt, Batista retired from wrestling in 2019. He was inducted into the WWE Hall of Fame in 2020.
Acting Career
Batista’s acting career began in 2006 with a small role in the film “Relative Strangers.” He went on to appear in various movies such as “The Man with the Iron Fists,” “Riddick,” and “Guardians of the Galaxy.” He also had a role in the James Bond film “Spectre.”
In his most famous role, he played Drax the Destroyer in the Marvel Cinematic Universe (MCU) films “Guardians of the Galaxy” and “Avengers: Infinity War.” He will reprise his role in the upcoming “Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 3.”
Mixed Martial Arts Career
After retiring from wrestling, Batista pursued a career in mixed martial arts (MMA). He trained with Cesar Gracie and fought in Strikeforce, where he won both of his matches. However, Batista decided to retire from MMA after his second win, citing a lack of passion for the sport.
Batista is a three-time World Tag Team Champion, a six-time World Champion, and a two-time Royal Rumble winner. He has also won various other championships and accolades throughout his career. He is known for his power, strength, and intimidating presence in the ring.
