AS Roma, also known as simply Roma, is a professional football club based in Rome, Italy. The club was founded on June 22, 1927, and is regarded as one of the most successful and popular football clubs in Italian football history.

Club History

The history of AS Roma began when three Italian football teams, namely Roman, Alba-Audace, and Fortitudo-Roma, merged to form a new club. Since its inception, the club has undergone a few organizational changes but has consistently managed to maintain its place in the top-flight of Italian football.

In the 1980s, under the management of Nils Liedholm, Roma became one of the most successful clubs in Italy, winning the Serie A title three times, as well as the Coppa Italia twice. The club has also won the Supercoppa Italiana twice and the UEFA Cup once in its history.

The club’s crest consists of a golden emblem of the legendary mythical figure Romulus and Remus feeding from a wolf on top of the text “AS Roma.” This emblem represents the founding of Rome, which, according to Roman mythology, was founded by twin brothers Romulus and Remus, who were suckled by a she-wolf.

AS Roma plays its home matches at the Stadio Olimpico, located in the Foro Italico sports complex in Rome. The stadium has a seating capacity of 72,698 and is shared with Lazio, its city rival.
