Alessandra Ambrosio is a Brazilian model and actress. She was born on April 11, 1981, in Erechim, Brazil. Ambrosio is the daughter of a Polish and Italian descent mother and a Brazilian father. She has a sister named Aline Ambrosio.

Ambrosio started her modeling career at the age of 15. She was discovered by a modeling agency and began modeling for Dilson Stein. She also won the Elite Model Look competition in Brazil the same year. In 1999, she moved to New York City and signed with Elite Model Management.
